Final Fantasy VII Revelation: A Story Pass And 9 DLC For A Chopped-Up Game

The rumor has been shaking up the Final Fantasy sphere for hours now. The Epic Games Store database gave away the post-launch roadmap Square Enix had lined up. The store’s back-end reveals a load of add-on content planned for FF7 Revelation. The DLC schedule is out in the open well before any official announcement.

Among the detected content sit the usual Premium Edition and pre-order bonuses. But more importantly, 9 DLC add-ons and a Story Pass show up in the database. The Story Pass looks like a season pass dedicated to story expansions. The Japanese publisher could roll out this content series before or after the game’s release.

The dominant theory points to one DLC per protagonist plus an expansion centered on Sephiroth. Some players dream of a detour through Advent Children which extended the events of the original game. Others hope to see Dirge of Cerberus finally get some proper gaming redemption. Genesis also has the community talking as fans were hoping to see him in Revelation.

Naoki Hamaguchi never fully closed the door on extending the experience. The director explained back in May to Ntower that any potential DLC would depend on how much fan support the franchise gets. The heavy demand from players should push Square Enix to explore these options. The studio has clearly been laying the groundwork proactively for months.

The worry comes from the business model Square Enix has clearly adopted for FF7 Revelation. A game carved up into 9 DLC planned before it even ships drags the remake away from the monolithic experience of the 1997 original. The Final Fantasy 15 precedent still haunts the community, since a portion of its planned story DLC got flat-out cancelled. The risk of a similar commercial abandonment hangs over this massive program.

The Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy took Square Enix 10 years of development. The studio is wrapping up its saga by fragmenting the final experience instead of delivering a complete and cohesive work. Long-time fans will never see their cult JRPG respected in its artistic integrity. The ultimate remake turns into a paid content catalog before it even truly exists.
