Astro Bot, developed by Team Asobi and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, hit a milestone moment in its PC emulation journey. A community member named RSantila dropped the news on Discord on July 13, 2026 to officially confirm the technical breakthrough on the game.
SharpEmu is an experimental PS5 emulator built from the ground up in C# by developer par274. The open source project on GitHub runs on Windows, Linux and macOS even though most of the dev work targets Windows. The emulator already loads eboot.bin files from PS5 games, runs native CPU instructions and handles some kernel-level functionalities.
Technical progress still sits at a modest level with a few titles for now on the emulator. The 2D platformer Dreaming Sarah already runs entirely through SharpEmu with properly rendered textures. Titles SILENT HILL: The Short Message and Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 meanwhile reach the boot stage without pushing past certain phases. Reliable 3D rendering stays the major roadblock of the project before extending compatibility to bigger PS5 games.
SharpEmu’s popularity has exploded in recent weeks in the middle of the tension surrounding Sony. The Japanese manufacturer announced the total shutdown of PS5 physical discs starting in January 2028 on all its future games. This controversial call reignited community interest in game preservation through emulation. The community actively hunts for solutions to keep access to its libraries in the face of the forced digital shift pushed by manufacturers.
RSantila announced on Discord that he successfully booted Astro Bot through SharpEmu on his PC. The Team Asobi game is however a PS5 exclusive that launched exclusively on the Sony Interactive Entertainment machine in September 2024. Actual playability of the title stays unknown at this stage since booting alone doesn’t guarantee a full gameplay experience on PC.
This feat marks a symbolic turning point in the PS5 emulation race against its rivals ShadPS4, RPCSX and Kyty. The November 19, 2026 launch of GTA 6 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S without an initial PC version ramps up the PC community’s demand for these emulators. The successful boot of a game as complex as Astro Bot proves that the technology moves extremely fast. This success factors in its heavy graphical effects and precise DualSense integration. The community now waits eagerly for expanded compatibility to bigger PS5 exclusives in the coming months of the open source project.
