Battlefield 6, developed by DICE and published by Electronic Arts, is about to reshape its Battle Pass model with the launch of Season 4. The studio dropped the news on the official Battlefield Comms account of the franchise on July 10, 2026.
The Battlefield Comms account published the community update on July 10, 2026 to lock in this major change to the game. DICE justified the call as a response to player feedback asking for more chances to grab cosmetics they missed during past seasons. The studio still holds the current-season exclusivity for players actively grinding the running Battle Pass through its tiers.
The technical mechanic packs a 3-month buffer between the end of a Battle Pass and the return of its skins in the in-game store. This buffer window protects the perceived value of Battle Passes for players active during the season. Returning bundles will run between 500 and 2,400 Battlefield Coins, which lands at roughly $5 to $20 based on the current store rates. The selection of skins coming back stays flexible and may shift over time based on the developers’ editorial calls each season.
Not every past Battle Pass item will make it back to the store though. Battle Pass Instant Unlocks and BF Pro Instant Unlocks will stay tied to their original season and won’t return in any future rotation. Items from the Ultimate Path and the Prestige Path also keep their one-time exclusive status permanently. DICE also flags that exact timing, availability and selection of returning skins stay flexible and are not guaranteed in the long run.
The delayed resale of Battle Pass skins waters down the pull of live seasons for the active community. The FOMO principle tied to the paid Battle Pass takes a serious hit with this decision. Every appealing cosmetic eventually resurfaces in the store a few months later. Electronic Arts is betting on the extra revenue generated by casual players who will buy missed skins one by one from the store. These players will grab the cosmetics without ever grinding through the full Battle Pass during the running season. This reselling strategy matches the moves already pulled by Fortnite and Call of Duty in their own item shops.
The wider context of Battlefield 6 loads the announcement with extra weight for the game’s economic health. Electronic Arts has been rolling out layoffs across DICE, Criterion, Motive and Ripple Effect since November 2025. The buyout of the publisher by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund also sits at a hefty $55 billion. Battlefield 6 player retention now hovers around 60,000 to 70,000 concurrent players on Steam. The launch peak of October 2025 still holds the record with 747,000 concurrent players at its highest. The skins reselling move lands as an extra monetization lever for the game. The publisher aims to squeeze more value out of a premium title losing steam in the middle of a major restructuring.
