The next generation of the wildly popular saga is slowly coming into focus through increasingly explosive insider revelations. Pokémon Winds and Waves just landed at the center of an absolutely massive double leak that could redefine every expectation around the Pokémon franchise’s 10th generation.
Trusted leaker Kurwa just dropped a huge piece of intel on X that was immediately relayed and cross-verified by the well-known account Centro Leaks. The latest build of Pokémon Winds and Waves would reportedly pack a staggering 531 slots in its Pokédex according to the datamined info. The datamines also reveal 307 placeholders directly reserved for new creatures inside the game’s internal structure. Centro Leaks immediately corroborated this info by flagging it as « VERY LIKELY REAL » through their own independent sources. The Nintendo Switch 2 actually prevents the traditional datamining methods that fans usually rely on, which makes this massive leak even more impressive.
This figure of 300 new Pokémon would straight up mark a historic milestone across the whole franchise. The 1st generation of Pokémon Red and Blue shipped with 151 brand new creatures back in 1996. The previous record for new creatures had been held by Pokémon Black and White in 2010 with only 156 new monsters. Winds and Waves would nearly double this historic record if it lands as leaked at the 2027 launch. These wild numbers can also be chalked up to the announced mix between pure new creatures and exclusive regional forms tied to the region.
The leak also drops a brand new battle mechanic dubbed Netsu that’s set to completely reshape encounters. This fresh gimmick will let certain Pokémon shift forms based directly on the weather conditions across the map. The principle heavily echoes the iconic Mega Evolutions and Gigantamax phenomena from earlier generations. Pikachu, Lucario and Arcanine all sit among the fan-favorite creatures set to rock these exclusive weather forms. Kurwa notably warns that this intel remains subject to change ahead of the game’s final release.
The Pokémon franchise has been getting hammered by criticism over its blatant lack of ambition for years despite record-breaking sales. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet massively disappointed tons of fans with their persistent technical issues at launch. Pokémon Legends Arceus actually marked the first real modern shot at reinventing the saga back in 2022. This fresh massive leak around Winds and Waves finally brings concrete hope after several tough years for the franchise. Longtime fans have been dreaming of a mainline entry that finally dares to shake up conventions established over 25 years now.
The other reveals from the leak push even further in this decidedly ambitious direction. Pokémon Winds and Waves is notably described as an MMO-lite title with heavily developed online communication features. The game will also drop 3 story arcs structured on the proven model of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The official release is currently pegged for sometime in 2027 exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. This 10th generation could finally get the Pokémon franchise back on the path of the true evolution fans have been craving for way too long.
