Gothic 1 Remake: All 5 Hidden Cave Locations and the Loot Inside

Gothic 1 Remake tucks 5 hidden caves away across the Valley of Mines. Each one stashes a specific haul ranging from unique quest items to rare weapons and crafting herbs you’ll need for early-game cooking.

How to Find the Hidden Caves in Gothic 1 Remake

Unlike most modern RPGs, Gothic 1 Remake ships with no minimap and zero quest markers to hold your hand. The only way to track down its caves is good old exploration on foot, paying attention to NPC dialogue and the natural paths winding through the Valley of Mines. Each cave gives itself away through visual cues like a jagged rock opening, creatures prowling the entrance, or landmarks such as a bridge or gate. Grabbing a colony map from Graham in the Old Camp makes pinpointing each spot far less of a headache.

The loot inside these caves scales with the threat level of the creatures squatting in them. Molerats go down easy from Chapter 1 onwards and the caves they nest in are loaded with crafting herbs like Solanaceae and Hellcaps for Snaf’s recipes. The Black Goblins holed up in the Goblin Cave demand a mid-tier one-handed weapon and a bit of patience. As for Jacko and his crew in the New Camp, you’ll either need to win a tough fight or play it sneaky to snag the prized Bloodfly Sting.

All 5 Hidden Cave Locations in Gothic 1 Remake

Here’s exactly where to find each of the 5 hidden caves in Gothic 1 Remake:

  • Nek’s Cave – Nek’s Amulet (Old Camp South) -> Head out through Old Camp’s South Gate and push straight ahead until you spot the cave entrance guarded by Molerats. Loot Nek’s corpse for his amulet along with an axe, Hellcaps and Solanaceae to wrap up The Vanished Warder quest
  • Small Molerat Cave – 2 Solanaceae (Old Camp North) -> Sitting right next to the bridge by Old Camp’s North Gate, this tiny cave hosts a handful of Molerats you can drop within your first few hours of play
  • Large Molerat Cave – 2 Solanaceae (West of Town) -> West of Old Camp, near Pacho’s guarded path leading into orc territory. Rougher than the previous one with more Molerats to clear out
  • Goblin Cave – Almanac (Old Camp to Swamp Camp road) -> On the trail between Old Camp and Swamp Camp, tucked behind a wooden bridge in the woods. A pack of Black Goblins has claimed it as their den. The Almanac sits in a chest at the back of the cave for Cor Kalom’s quest, dropping a solid 2,500 XP
  • Jacko’s Cave – Bloodfly Sting (New Camp) -> Right at New Camp’s entrance, on the right after slipping past Renyu at the gate. Jacko and his goons are waiting inside. Beat him to score the Bloodfly Sting, a powerful mace tied to the Up to His Neck quest the Rice Lord hands you while joining the New Camp
