GTA 6 Weapons List: All Confirmed Guns, Gear And Inventory System Explained

Grand Theft Auto VI is shaping up to have the most complex weapon system in the series. Rockstar Games has confirmed more than 30 individual weapons spread across 9 categories. The game ditches the infinite pocket arsenal of GTA 5 for a strict carry limit and a redesigned weapon wheel.

The GTA 6 Inventory Overhaul That Caps Your Loadout And Changes Combat

GTA 6 borrows its inventory logic from Red Dead Redemption 2 and forces tactical loadout choices before every mission. Rockstar Games has confirmed multiple major mechanical changes:

  • Carry limit -> Maximum 2 rifles and 2 handguns on your person, no more infinite pocket arsenal from GTA 5.
  • Vehicle trunk storage -> Spare weapons live in your trunk, with Jason and Lucia shown pulling guns straight from the back of the car in trailer footage.
  • Weapons Locker garage -> The Vercetti Estate (Ultimate Edition) garage comes with a dedicated locker for customizing your loadout before each ride.
  • Redesigned 3-tier weapon wheel -> Switch between Weapons, Equipment, and Gear via the R1/RB button, directly inspired by Red Dead Redemption 2.
  • Shared inventory for Jason and Lucia -> Certain items and weapons get tagged as « Shared » and are accessible across both protagonists.
  • Duffel Bag slot -> Dedicated slot for hauling robbery loot, possibly extra weapons too.
  • Drop and pickup mechanics -> You can drop unwanted weapons mid-mission, with dedicated animations for picking them back up.
  • Hand switching -> Fire left-handed or right-handed to wrap around cover without exposing yourself.
  • Swimming combat -> Weapons now work underwater, something GTA 5 never allowed.
  • Drive-by overhaul -> Stand in pickup beds or lean out of windows for proper drive-bys with assault rifles.
  • Under-fire animations -> Block animations that vary depending on the weapon you’re carrying during a shootout.
  • Dynamic NPC reactions -> Auto-holster kicks in around bystanders, who panic when a weapon comes out in public.
  • Deep customization -> Magazines, optics, tints, liveries, and special rounds like Heavy Ammo, Spear Ammo, and Rockets.
  • Weapon acquisition -> Ammu-Nation shops, free pickups across the map, and unlocks through story missions.
  • First-person aiming -> Full first-person mode with bespoke reload and shooting animations, building on GTA 5‘s enhanced edition.
  • No dual wielding -> Unlike Red Dead Redemption 2, you carry 1 weapon at a time in your hands.

The 7 Handguns For Mobility And Stealth Missions

Handguns draw fast and conceal easily, here are the confirmed models:
