It was easily one of the most unexpected reveals of the latest State of Play from Sony. Saber Interactive used the showcase to officially unveil Stuntman: Hollywood, the long-awaited return of a PS2 cult classic that had vanished from the radar for nearly two decades.
The June 2, 2026 announcement marks the big comeback of a series that hadn’t shown signs of life since Stuntman: Ignition dropped in 2007. Saber Interactive is teaming up with Universal Products & Experiences to deliver a single-player action-racing experience built around the studio giant’s most iconic intellectual properties. Tim Willits, Chief Creative Officer at Saber Interactive, said in the official press release that recreating this « legend of gaming history » had been a long-standing dream for the studio, which now aims to evolve the original concept while keeping its DNA intact. Stuntman: Hollywood is set to launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, with no release date locked in for now.
Five film and TV licenses are already confirmed at launch, and the publisher is teasing more announcements down the line. Players will get to pull off the most iconic stunts from Fast & Furious, Back to the Future, Knight Rider, Miami Vice and Death Race, a lineup that spans four decades of automotive pop culture. The concept stays true to the original formula crafted in 2002 by Reflections Interactive, the team behind the Driver series. Each level will require players to nail the stunts called by the shoot, hitting their marks and timings with the kind of punishing difficulty that made the franchise’s reputation twenty years ago.
No studio had dared touch the stunt-driving genre since Stuntman: Ignition in 2007. The genre died with its own end, victim of a formula deemed too punishing for its time and an audience already won over by more accessible arcade racers like Burnout and Split/Second, two touchstones that Saber Interactive openly credits in its announcement.
The gaming landscape has shifted dramatically in the two decades since, with the rise of editorial models that lean heavily on movie licenses to stay relevant over the long haul. Saber Interactive seems set on capitalizing on that trend by building Stuntman: Hollywood as a scalable platform, ready to roll in fresh licenses over time on top of the five already confirmed.
The studio’s gamble hinges on a tricky balance between staying loyal to the punishing DNA of the original and meeting the accessibility modern players expect, with content already padded out by B-roll episodes, short filler films, and dedicated stunt arenas. The game is already available to wishlist on the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, and Steam, while fans wait for an official release date.
